What is the selection process?
Students compete in three (3) rounds of competition. Eligible candidates are called to fill in the online application (Round 1) from beginning of August until 10 October, 2024. The application includes three essay questions and should be completed within 10 days after its start. Then candidates are invited to take part in an online timed English test (Round2). An independent committee will assess the applications and the selected candidates will be invited to take part in the third and final round (Round 3) of the competition, which includes an individual interview with American Councils staff, a standardized test of English, three more essays and the submission of the official program application.
Selection will be based on merit and demonstrated preparedness for a year-long exchange experience as evidenced in students’ comprehensive applications.
The selection process will be completed in spring, and all applicants will receive notification of their status by mid-May. Selected finalists will attend a pre-departure orientation in their home country in June-July and travel to the U.S. in July-August. Students return home the following May-June on the date assigned by American Councils.
