Application instructions for FLEX 2024-2025

Take part in the FLEX competition to get a full scholarship to spend a year in the U.S. and study in an American high school.

Eligible applicants must:

Study in 3rd Gymnasium or 1st Lyceum AND be born from July 15 2006 to July 15 2009; Have an academic standing of good or better; Be enrolled and study in a secondary school in Greece when they apply; Have previously studied English and demonstrate English language ability at the time of registration; Meet U.S. visa eligibility requirements; Be a Greek citizen and be able to receive an international passport in Greece.

How to take part in the FLEX competition:

Flex competition is open to students that meet eligibility criteria and consists of 3 rounds.

Round 1: Online preliminary application at ais.americancouncils.org/flex until 10 October 2023. Includes three essay questions and should be completed within 10 days from the moment the applicant starts it (by pressing ‘start’ button).

Round 2: Within 24 hours ALL applicants receive email with the English test link. The link remains active for 72 hours and the test is TIMED and should be completed within 15 MINUTES after activation.

Round 3: Only selected students after Round 1 and 2 will be invited to the third and last round, which includes a comprehensive English test, personal interview, three more essays and the official FLEX application.

How to apply for FLEX 2024-2025? Step by step instructions:

1. Visit the link, ais.americancouncils.org/flex from beginning of August until October 10, 2023. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT LINK.

2. Create an account, using a valid email and wait for a confirmation email. We advise you to create an account with the student’s details and not the parents. Note: If you can’t find an email, remember to check your spam folder.

  • What you need to apply: You will need to upload an identification document (birth certificate, national ID or passport), a face photo that can be taken from your phone as a selfie and the answer in three essay questions. Make sure to save your work at all times and that all files you upload are named in Latin alphabet.

3. Start your application. YOU HAVE 10 DAYS to complete and submit your preliminary application, from the day you start completing the application (with ‘start’ button) and in any case you have to submit by October 10, 2023 (if the 10 day period ends after October 10 according to the start date, the deadline is still October 10 and not later). Note: The application consists of 12 sections, including three essay questions. Remember to press ‘SAVE CHANGES’ in order to save your work and before you move on to the next section. You have to complete ALL sections in order to submit it and press the ‘‘SUMBIT’’ button.

4. After you submit your preliminary application and within 24 hours you will receive an email with the LINK for the timed online ENGLISH TEST, with the access code that you will use to start the test and instruction about the completion and submission of the test.

5. The link for the online English test will remain active for 72 hours.

6. The online English test is timed, which means that from the moment you start it (by entering the access code that will be sent to you), YOU WILL HAVE 15 MINUTES TO COMPLETE IT.

Attention: Each student should submit only one application. If a student submits more than one application, they will be disqualified.

Students who will pass to the third and final stage of the competition will be contacted by the American Councils office in their country with more details in November. Round 3 will include an interview, three more essay questions, a comprehensive English test, and the full application.
